About Cactus Margarita

The trademarked Cactus Margarita™ Mix hit the gourmet shops in whimsically labeled 25 oz. bottles for the restaurant and lounge or bar market in June, 1998.  Product owner Beth Zies said, "This margarita differs from all the other margaritas because the main ingredient is cactus juice from the fruit of the wicked prickly pear cactus (called tunas in Spanish)." "One taste of this Cactus Margarita™ will give you a new slant on enjoying prickly pear cactus," said Zies.  In the label, Texas Cowboy Cartoonist, Jonathan Paul Rankin depicts an armadillo boldly enjoying a frosty Cactus Margarita™. Within the picture, a faucet strategically placed in a group of the tunas drips cactus juice into a bottle of the Cactus Margarita™. This bottle of Cactus Margarita™ is stabilized upright and guarded by a slightly poised Texas rattle snake.  The armadillo proudly wears a Texas badge and sports an engraved Texas gun in his holster.  All proudly pose with an attitude in front of the Texas flag. "Cactus Margaritas are actually made from the Prickly Pear Cactus. This is the only margarita made from genuine cactus juice," said Zies. Artist Rankin declares, "Beyond the informational art of the label, this is just a heck of a good tasting margarita."
